The fortified city of Oathwatch is already falling when the story begins. Infernum forces have breached its outer defenses, and the city’s seal mages have only one remaining answer: a protection spell powerful enough to remove Oathwatch from the enemy’s reach.

But an Infernum sorcerer has already entered the inner sanctuary. At the final moment, he corrupts the central anchor while the defenders complete the spell.

The assault is stopped. Oathwatch disappears from the battlefield. Yet the protection no longer preserves life—it arrests it. Streets, defenders, families and the creature that sabotaged the ritual are sealed inside the same frozen hour.

A Century Beneath the Chains

Outside the phase veil, decades pass. Kingdoms change, roads vanish beneath snow and Oathwatch becomes little more than a disputed name in old records.

Inside the city, nothing can finish. A sword remains suspended before impact. Snow hangs in the air. The final expressions of fear and defiance never fade.

At the center of the binding stands Chronos, a monumental time anchor of black stone, ice, metal and aether. Chronos is not the god of Greek mythology. In this visual chronicle, the name belongs to the conscious heart of Oathwatch’s protection spell—a guardian forced to remain awake while an entire century passes beyond its chains.

The Heir Who Finds Oathwatch

One hundred years later, Aren Valdren, a seal mage of the Order of the Light, follows the fragments of his own family history into the abandoned northern borderlands. His ancestors came from Oathwatch, and a surviving griffin seal has carried the memory of the city across generations.

Aren does not stumble across the lost city. He searches for it. At a weathered marker, he uses revelation magic to expose the displaced resonance hidden beside ordinary reality. Oathwatch becomes visible only because he forces the phase veil to answer.

Crossing that boundary costs him warmth, strength and certainty. Beyond it, Aren finds a city that has not died—and people who have not been permitted to live.

The Last Hour Shard

Within the frozen sanctuary, Aren discovers the missing fragment of the central binding: the Last Hour Shard. Returning it to the Chronos anchor does not simply unlock the city. It forces the repaired protection spell to recognize the Infernum corruption still embedded within it.

The foreign resonance is torn free, and the surviving Infernum sorcerer is cast back into the present. Aren must complete the work outside the frozen hour, binding the creature to the ground and using a reversal spell to strip away its Infernum essence until only a lifeless husk remains.

The victory has a price. The inherited seal that led Aren to Oathwatch is consumed, and the city’s return can no longer be separated from the fate of Chronos itself.

When Time Finally Moves

The final images carry the story beyond the breaking of the curse. Chronos rises from the loosened chains, passes above Oathwatch and becomes a solitary star. Beneath that new light, the phase distortion withdraws and the fortified city becomes part of the world once more.

The winter remains. The consequences remain. But the last hour is no longer the only hour Oathwatch will ever know.

The Fate Left Open in Velvet Oath

The story begins where “Velvet Oath” ended.

Jarek, a Blood Warden, had been left mortally wounded. Lady Veyra was captured and forced to kneel before Althea, while the man she loved appeared to be beyond saving. Yet before death could take him, Veyra made one final, hidden choice: she gave Jarek the blood kiss.

It did not restore the life he had known. It gave him another.

The new song reveals what followed. Serenya recognizes the trace of Veyra’s act and understands what Althea’s decree would destroy. She closes the black book, sets part of her emerging court in motion and opens a hidden road beneath the greater crown.
