In later interpretations, the banner rises again — damaged, wet, and incomplete, but still visible.

Rain and Ash

Rain and ash belong to the physical reality of Idunae’s campaigns.

Rain suggests cold, exhaustion, obscured roads, and armour that never fully dries.

Ash suggests destroyed homes, rift pressure, the aftermath of battle, and the presence of the Infernum.

Together, they strip away decorative heroism. They place Idunae in a world where duty is uncomfortable, heavy, and real.

Dawn

Dawn is the promise at the heart of Idunae’s arc.

It is never guaranteed.

It must be protected through the darkest hours.

A wounded dawn is still a victory when people remain alive to see it.

Relationship to the Order of the Light

The Order of the Light is Idunae’s military home and the institution to which she has bound her oath.

She believes in its purpose: protecting settlements, closing rifts, guarding roads, and resisting the Infernum.

However, loyalty does not make her blind.

Idunae knows that institutions can turn sacrifice into expectation. A commander who repeatedly succeeds against impossible odds may become a convenient answer to every crisis.

Her relationship with the Order should therefore contain both devotion and tension.

She serves its purpose.

She does not exist merely to satisfy its need for legends.

Relationship to Erik Falkenfaust

Erik Falkenfaust is one of the most important personal connections in Idunae’s story.

Their bond is based on comradeship, trust, shared hardship, and mutual understanding. They belong to the same tradition of line-holders: people who remain when others must pass behind them.

Erik’s loss deepens Idunae’s sense of responsibility, but he should not exist only as a tragedy that motivates her.

He represents an equal.

A trusted companion.

Someone who understood the weight of the oath without requiring explanation.

Their shared legacy becomes part of Rhyngar’s remembrance culture and influences later generations.

Relationship to Rhyngar

Rhyngar is closely tied to Idunae’s identity as an oath-bearer.

It represents origin, memory, gathering, and the traditions that gave language to her sense of duty. Even when she fights far from its halls and valleys, Rhyngar remains the place against which ideas of loyalty and return are measured.

Later generations remember Idunae through memorials, stories, songs, and oath traditions connected to this cultural inheritance.

Rhyngar is not merely where she comes from.

It is part of what she believes must survive.

Enemies and Opposing Forces

The Infernum

The Infernum is the greater force behind many of Idunae’s battles.

Its pressure enters Ardanor through rifts, Demon Gates, corrupted ground, and waves of hostile creatures. It is not simply another kingdom fighting for territory. It threatens the stability of the world itself.

For Idunae, the Infernum is experienced practically:

• a road that can no longer be crossed
• a valley filled with hostile movement
• a gate that must be sealed
• a village that must be emptied
• a horizon that begins to burn

The Fracture Cult

The Fracture Cult is the human enemy within the Rift Wars.

Its members sabotage seals, feed instability, open paths for the Infernum, and use fear as a weapon against already strained communities.

This makes the cult especially dangerous to Idunae. The Infernum may be visibly monstrous, but the cult understands human roads, defences, rituals, and weaknesses.

It attacks trust as much as territory.

Set in 820 n.d.G., it follows her and the Order of the Light at the Northern Rift Frontier as a single commander’s oath becomes the collective declaration of an entire defensive line.

Wenn das Banner fällt

A German-language lament interpreting the aftermath of Velmorn, late arrival, fallen soldiers, and Idunae’s refusal to leave the field even when victory is no longer possible.

Nicht so soll es enden

An answer to the earlier lament.

Grief becomes renewal, and the fallen banner becomes a call to restore the oath rather than allow sacrifice to disappear into silence.
