A YouTube thumbnail must attract attention quickly. A song artwork must feel iconic and self-contained. A website featured image must support an article and fit into the archive.

Different roles

A thumbnail needs impact.

A cover needs identity.

A featured image needs atmosphere.

That means I often adjust the same visual idea depending on where it appears.

Website images

For Teutarya’s Herald, featured images should feel more editorial and less aggressive than thumbnails.

They need to support the archive feeling of the website: cinematic, atmospheric, readable, and connected to the article topic.

The goal

The goal is visual consistency without repetition.

A visitor should feel that all images belong to Teutarya — even when they show different songs, stories, factions, or behind-the-scenes topics.

It has to work fast.

Most people see it on a small mobile screen, surrounded by many other videos. That means the image needs a clear focus, strong contrast, emotional expression, and a readable composition.

Artwork is not always a thumbnail

Some images are beautiful as standalone artwork but weak as thumbnails.

They may be too detailed, too dark, too distant, or too atmospheric. For YouTube, the viewer needs to understand the emotional signal almost immediately.

What matters most

For Teutarya thumbnails, I usually look for:

• one strong focal point
• expressive faces or clear symbolic objects
• dark atmosphere with enough visible detail
• readable contrast
• cinematic lighting
• a composition that still works when cropped

The Teutarya challenge

Teutarya needs to feel dark, mythic, and cinematic — but not muddy.

That balance is difficult. Too much darkness kills readability. Too much brightness weakens the gothic mood.

The visual direction is therefore a constant balance between atmosphere and clarity.

The idea behind the website is closer to a dark-fantasy archive: a place where songs, chronicles, lore fragments, and project updates can appear as parts of a larger world.

Why an archive style?

Teutarya is a music-first project, but the songs point toward something larger. They feel like fragments of a myth — moments from battles, courts, oaths, lost places, and stories between light and shadow.

That is why the website needs to feel more like a chronicle than a simple news page.

The visual direction

The current direction combines:

• dark editorial layouts
• atmospheric featured images
• old chronicle and herald influences
• cinematic dark-fantasy realism
• muted colors, stone, parchment, gold, shadow, and mist

The goal is not to overwhelm the visitor with effects. The goal is to create a calm, mysterious entry point into the world.

A living archive

The design will continue to evolve as the project grows.

New songs, stories, lore entries, and behind-the-scenes posts will shape the visual identity over time. The website is not a finished monument. It is an archive being opened.
