Before she became a queen, AlthéaAlthéa is the later Vampire Queen and a founding figure of t... was intended to be an offering. The people who brought her into a hidden chapel expected her death to give them power. What emerged from their ritual would become a power of its own.
Her story begins with a mortal name: Altheya.

Her transformation is placed at approximately 830 n.d.G.; the date gives her story a historical setting without fixing the night to an exact year.
This matters when approaching Teutarya’s vampire stories. Althéa’s rise belongs many centuries before Serenya’s later period of power, which begins in 1701. Altheya’s mortal life still leaves room for stories. She could have crossed paths with IdunaeIdunae is a field commander of the Order of the Light who le... before her transformation, but their shared experiences have not yet been established.
The ritual that failed
In a concealed chapel beneath a palace, human conspirators belonging to an old night pact prepared a blood ritual. They intended to sacrifice Altheya, mingle her blood with the ancestral blood of an ancient vampire, and channel the resulting power to their ritual leader.
As the knife came for her, Altheya moved. The blade wounded her arm, and she fell against the altar. The vessel containing the ancient blood shattered. Its contents entered her open wound.
Altheya died as a human that night. The failed ritual brought her back as AlthéaAlthéa is the later Vampire Queen and a founding figure of t....
Every participant physically present was human. The vampire’s blood had been preserved in the vessel. That detail places the betrayal firmly among the people who had arranged her death: they brought the means of transformation into the room and lost control of what it created.
How a survivor became a sovereign
The founding of the Court of the BloodnightThe Court of the Bloodnight is a vampiric order that gathers... followed her transformation. Its formation and consolidation are placed roughly between 830 and 850 n.d.G.
VampiresVampires are intelligent night predators who need blood and ... already existed. Older bloodlines, small circles and loose night pacts preceded Althéa’s rise. Her historical importance lies in bringing these powers into the more unified order later associated with the Court.
The intended sacrifice had become an independent ruler. The contrast gives her origin its force: those who meant to use her blood helped create someone they could no longer command.
The older crown
Althéa’s presence reaches beyond the story of her own transformation. In the events surrounding Lady Veyra and Jarek, Veyra’s subsequent captivity places her within Althéa’s power. Althéa’s knowledge of Jarek’s survival and her precise purpose in holding Veyra remain unresolved.
Those unanswered questions leave room for tension without deciding the next story in advance.
Her defining manner is cold, dignified and controlled. The threat comes from a sovereign capable of waiting, judging and maintaining power. Remembering the woman at the altar makes that control more unsettling: her reign began at the moment someone else expected her to become obedient.
